One again the Beacon Chevrolet site is back o the market
and that is not good news as the city moves forward with
the Lynn Waterfront Master plan.
According to EDIC Executive Director James Cowdell, the
negotiations between the Ohio-based Forrest City Enterprises
and land owner John Granese ended a couple weeks ago after
the two parties could not agree on an extension requested
by Forrest City after an agreed 90-day period for further
research on the site had passed.
Cowedell said, “Forrest City
has walked away, so the property is back on the market.”
This is a major setback for the city because the Beacon
site is viewed as a vital piece of the Lynn Waterfront
Master Plan.
On Tuesday, August 7, local development
officials and Sasaki Associates, the city’s primary consulting
firm for the harbor front project, will present the latest
version of the Lyn Waterfront Master Plan to the City Council’s
economic subcommittee.
While the overall vision of the waterfront
area in Lynn will continue, and EDIC’s Cowedell
says he has had three parties express interest in the
parcel, having to begin a new search for a potential
buyer for the Beacon site is a discouraging setback,
but one that hopefully can be overcome.
