Lynn Wins $1M Prize

Cowdell said construction on the waterfront housing development, also known as the North Harbor site project, is expected to begin in December, and will take about a year and a half to complete.

“The Seaport Economic Council once again came through for the city of Lynn,” Cowdell said in a statement. “This grant will be used in partnership with an $80 million private investment in dramatically improving our waterfront.”

State Sen. Thomas McGee (D-Lynn) said in a statement that “this funding is critically important to not only ensure public accessibility of our waterfront in Lynn, but also to protect the low-lying shoreline and prevent long-term coastal erosion. The abutting North Harbor site project is a true collaboration of public and private planning and funding, which will ultimately spur future development.”

“Public access is essential to Lynn’s waterfront developments and these funds will help make that a reality,” said state Rep. Brendan Crighton (D-Lynn) in a statement. “As a result of the improvements to the seawall, this boardwalk will be a great recreational destination for families, and also connect passengers with the Lynn Ferry terminal.”

State Rep. Daniel Cahill (D-Lynn) said in a statement that “we are grateful of the Seaport Economic Council’s decision to invest alongside the city of Lynn in this vital project that will jump start development while creating public access to our waterfront.”

“This grant funding is a great example of a win for everyone,” said state Rep. Lori Ehrlich (D-Marblehead). “Resilient infrastructure, public space, and private development coming together (will) improve the quality of life for all residents of Lynn. I look forward to this being one of many new and exciting projects in the city.” 
State Rep. Donald Wong (R-Saugus) said in a statement that “I’d like to thank the administration for this much needed funding towards the seawall improvements, which will allow residents and visitors to take advantage and enjoy this natural resource.”

Six other communities were also awarded grants from the Seaport Economic Council for their initiatives to improve coastal public infrastructure and promote maritime economic development.

“The Seaport Economic Council provides coastal cities and towns the ability to advance community driven efforts for economic development, including planning efforts to infrastructure construction,” said Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, chairwoman of the Seaport Economic Council, in a statement.

“The varied needs of our communities are reflected in the awards announced today, from a harbor management plan in Dartmouth, to a lifeguard station in Swansea and a critical seawall in Lynn. These projects will promote local growth and unlock economic potential," Polito said.
